I think God graced us with four seasons for a reason. We may not think we like change, but I think everyone needs change in their life once in awhile. So one thing that always changes is the seasons. You never have to worry in Manitoba about the weather staying the same. Weather is basically different every single day of every single month of every single year. These next four blog posts will be titled after seasons and my thoughts on them - a few stories included possibly!
Fall is my personal favourite season of the year!
I love going for walks on fall days when the sun is streaming through the beautiful orange, red and yellow leaves, creating a gold atmosphere. The air seems fresher and crisp. Animals become active and alive as the days get shorter, making ready for the winter that is scheduled to come upon them. Watching a squirrel scurrying from treetop to treetop always in such a hurry until he suddenly stops to stare at you as he nibbles on a nut.
I feel like this past fall kinda passed me by. I got to take the occasional walk in the midday fog or the evenings sunset. Or once in awhile flying at 2,500ft watching the combines or tractors working in the fields below and seeing the pretty brown and gold patchwork quilt that makes up the Manitoba prairie of the fall.
I'll walk through the bush sometimes, on a nice fall day, and just have a conversation; just me and God. The birds and wind as my music and the trees as my audience. Personally to get myself out there leaving my phone and/or camera behind and just going for a serene walk with only your eyes to drink in the beauty and only the animals to be your company is hard! I'm so used to plugging my headphones and taking a camera with me! Honestly it's hard to relax then.
Enjoying God’s creation without man made distractions is hard for us to do these days. Most of us are very used to having things quick and the convenience of having everything at our fingertips that we forget to stop and smell the roses or live in the moment that God has created for us. I'm number one in being guilty for this! But I've been trying to get outside and leave my camera and phone inside learning to enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of creation! Don't get me wrong though, take nature pictures is a very worthwhile past time!
I'm very blessed to have easy access to nature, where deer walk down our driveway and muskrats come and knock on our front door. I don't know how long I'll have that so I want to make the most of this season!
A favourite memory of mine was going to the top of the house roof in October 2016 and star gazing. Ever since that time I'll sometimes just stop in a dark place turn off my car and enjoy the stars! Sometimes I even get a Aurora Lights show which makes it ten times more worth it. Stopping to drink in the season as it comes upon you and enjoy God's creation is always a worthwhile thing!
